The tradition of drumming in his family will end with Muddanawe Sunil, as his son will not carry on the family tradition at his father's request. The centuries-old drumming beats and rhythms of his tribe are in jeopardy of becoming a faded memory if the rhythms are not taught to newer generations. The sacrifice to carry on these traditions are great, as living a life of a drummer is not economically viable, and many sons choose not to follow in the family tradition.   • Kampung Warna Warni in Malang, East Java Indonesia. One of the poorest districts in Malang was on the verge of being torn down. Local university students and activists intervened and painted the village bright colors, revitalizing its image into a very successful tourist attraction with many vendors and shops selling souvenirs.

  • Farmers dance their sapi (cow) down the field in competition for the most beautiful cows of the region at the annual Festival Sapi Sono'. Participants come from all four regions of Madura (Bangkalan, Sampang, Pamekasan, and Sumenep) and competitions began in the 1950s.
